aka Roy’s Peak
Coromandel Peak, often lovingly called Roy’s Peak or Mount Roy, is one of New Zealand’s most photographed viewpoints and for good reason. Soaring high above Lake Wānaka, this ridgeline offers sweeping, cinematic views of the lake’s blue expanse and the serrated skyline of Mount Aspiring National Park.
For centuries, Māori navigated the lake and surrounding valleys, with Wānaka (Ōtākou) serving as an important seasonal food-gathering area. In the late 1800s, the land became part of Roy’s Peak Station, a sheep run named after the Scottish settler William Roy. Today, the walking track is a favourite with hikers, but arriving here by helicopter means you skip the crowds and land on a private section reserved just for you.
The drama of this location is matched only by its romance. The contrast of wild mountain ridges, glassy water, and open skies makes every photograph look like a painting. Saying your vows here is about more than a backdrop, it’s about standing on one of the most iconic peaks in Aotearoa, letting the wind carry your words, and beginning your next chapter with the whole world at your feet.
